#CleanerTown

Cleaner Seas begins with each one of us.  How our household drains are connected, how sustainable our businesses are, the choices we make, saying no to single use plastics and plastic carrier bags, to what gets put down our sinks and flushed down our loos.

Bude Cleaner Seas Project are collaborating with South West Water, Cornwall Wildlife Trust and the Environment Agency to support our community in all of the above.  We have worked with Budehaven Community School and local politicians to raise awareness of fats, oils and grease blocking drains and polluting the environment and have handed out over 400 ‘Gunk Pots’.  The gunk pots are designed to hold household fats and oils to prevent them from being poured into kitchen sinks.

We have successfully achieved the Keep Britain Tidy Seaside Award for Summerleaze and are confident we’ll retain it for a second year.

There are 8,500 blocked sewers a year, which costs about £4.5million a year and adds to bills,
by inappropriately flushing baby wipes, hygiene wipes, cleaning wipes, cleansing pads and sanitary products.

We find many of these items on the beach during all beach cleans

Blocked sewers can cause flooding, which is extremely unpleasant especially if it happens in your home,
and can be so easily avoided.
